When we think “beach,” our minds typically drift away to Hawaii, the Caribbean and the South Pacific.
Now, after seeing the aquamarine of Ölüdeniz, our sights are set on Turkey.
Ölüdeniz is a beach town on the Mediterranean Sea, and the water puts every beach we’ve ever seen to shame. Known as the Blue Lagoon, the beach is a perfectly clear ombré of aqua. And we’re determined to dip our toes.
Located on the southwest coast of Turkey, the beach is tucked away, sheltered by the surrounding mountains, so the water is always placid — perfect for wading and, as you can see in the video above, kayaking. The water is so crystal clear, it almost looks like the kayakers are paddling on air.
And while taking a dip is the most natural way to experience the turquoise bliss of Ölüdeniz, it’s just as incredible from a bird’s-eye view. The area is a popular spot for paragliding, and it’s no wonder why — the view from above is giving us severe wanderlust.
If that’s not enough magic for you, the surrounding area is also home to “Butterfly Valley,” a government-protected sanctuary with more than 80 species of butterflies. It sounds (and looks) pretty ideal to us.
